We are in Wales and on Wednesday we went to a 2000 year old castle near Pembrokeshire. We toured 14 parts of the castle. Five things I learned:
- A nobleman named Gerald escaped down a toilet when the Welsh tried to take over the castle.
- The East Wing is were they used to store food, wine, and beer.
- In the 13th century, the castle “modernized” by adding drum towers, guardwalks, and arrow slits.
- An ape murdered its master, Sir Roland Rhys, and the tower is said to be haunted by the ghost of the ape.
- We saw a mobile barber in the parking lot at the end you can get a hair cut in a van!
Thank you Max for your memorable post of Castle facts!
