A visit to Veneto wouldn’t be complete without a trip to Verona to see where Romeo and Juliet declared their love for each other! Verona was an easy albeit expensive – thanks to the motorway tolls – drive from our base in Bassano del Grappa, we toured the old town on foot, the architecture was very similar to that of Venice (but of course without all the water-filled streets!). Some very glitzy, marble-tiled shopping areas in the old town had Lilia’s eyes wide open, she enjoyed spending some of her travel money from Grandpa Greg on a new bathing suit from a store right across from the balcony at the House of Juliet. Lunch at La Tradision was quite fun, with more Venetian cicchetti that was very tasty (although not a patch on the offerings of Bar All’Arco in Venice).
Following our tour of Verona we ventured further west to the border between Veneto and Lombary to take a quick dip in the crystal clear waters of Lake Garda. We’d mentioned to the kids that we might have time to visit a waterpark before heading back to Bassano, so our swim in Lake Garda didn’t last too long with the possibility of waterslides on the docket. The slides at Parco Acquatico Riovalli were a huge hit with everyone in the family (especially the family’s biggest kid). If I had a euro for every time Lisa said, “Just one more time!” I’d have money for a few more beers tonight.
Those waterpark slides are to die for! So much history AND a modern pleasure, too! Way cool … in many ways!!! 👍😄👍 Love and hugs from the Q’s
