I woke up on the ferry Sunday morning and knew we were getting off in Sitka that day! We docked at 9AM and it felt so good to walk on land again. Sitka was so beautiful that you wouldn’t be able to explain it. Our campsite was really pretty and it was right next to a creek. Max and I found a lot of slugs and decided to make a home for them. The house only got bigger and bigger. The most we had at one time was 31 slugs. There were three different types: green and black, black, and green. When we woke up Monday morning there were only about five more slugs left.
On Monday Mom, Max, and I went to the beach and Max actually got in the water (all the way in!). I definitely did not want to, it was freezing cold! Dad went fishing on a charter and limited before anyone else did. The fish that we have will definitely last us the whole trip of Alaska!
The first few days of Sitka were awesome but my favorite was when Mom, Max, and I went kayaking on Tuesday. It was so fun, I went with Mom and Max went with one of the guides. One guide even made cookies for the snack on the trip, they were really good (I had oatmeal raisin). There are all these tiny islands in Sitka and they all have big houses on them. We were wondering how they get electricity. My second favorite would probably be Friday when we all went for a hike to Beaver Lake. We saw a lot of evidence of bears but didn’t see one! The lake was really pretty and we saw a beaver. When we were done with the hike the boys went fishing in the river. Then, today we got on the ferry to go to Juneau. Juneau will be another great adventure!
I like the pink knit hat that apparently has a map of the world on it. Nice.
A well written memoir of your Sitka experience, Lilia.
